Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about calibration intervals, turnaround, As Found / As Left data, maintenance and how to order.
01What brands of pipets do you calibrate?
Yes, our technicians are trained to service all major pipette brands. We have extensive experience with Eppendorf, VWR, Gilson, Rainin, Thermo Fisher, and many other leading brands.
02What is the turnaround time for Calibration?
Our typical turnaround time for mail-in service is 24-48 hours (not including shipping time). For on-site service, it's either same-day or next-day, depending on our technicians' availability and the quantity of pipets.
03What is the difference between As Found (As-before) and As Left (As-After) data?
“As-Found”: (Verification) The pipet's performance is tested before any parts are replaced or adjustments are made. This initial test verifies its current performance.
“As-Left”: (Calibration) The pipet's performance is tested again after all preventative maintenance, repairs, and calibration adjustments are completed.
04What does Preventative Maintenance include?
Preventative maintenance is a comprehensive service that includes disassembling the pipet to clean and lubricate the plunger and piston. This process also involves replacing all normal 'wear' parts, such as O-rings, seals, nozzles, and filters, to ensure the pipet performs reliably and accurately.
05How often should I calibrate my pipets?
We recommend servicing your pipet at least once a year. If your lab handles high volumes or critical applications, you may want to service them more frequently. Regular maintenance prevents malfunctions and extends the lifespan of your pipettes.
06Why should I calibrate my pipets regularly?
The manufacturer recommends performing routine maintenance and calibration verification on pipets at least once every 6-12 months. This timeframe can be adjusted depending on how often they are used and the substances they handle.
07How do I place an order or obtain a quote for Calibration and/or Repair Service?
Pipet calibration and repair orders can be placed through our email, phone call, and website. Quotes can also be generated through our website.
08What is the Uncertainty measurement?
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) defines measurement uncertainty as a parameter that quantifies the range of values that could be reasonably attributed to a measurement result. Essentially, it is an expanded measurement that takes into account the combined variance and tolerance of all equipment and factors used in the measurement process. This includes, but isn't limited to, the accuracy of the weighing scales, thermometers, hygrometers, and the technicians performing the calibration.
