Calibration Proc. and Techniques

  • Gravimetric Method: This is the most common method. It involves measuring the mass of dispensed deionized water and using the density of water at a given temperature to calculate the volume.
  • Multi-point Calibration: Technicians typically test pipettes at multiple volumes (e.g., maximum, 50%, and minimum) to ensure accuracy across the entire range.
  • As Found/As Left Data: A thorough calibration will include "as found" data, which shows the pipet's performance before any adjustments, and "as left" data, which shows the performance after calibration.

Service Options

  • In-lab (Mail-in) Service: Customers ship their pipets to a calibration lab. This is a common option that often has a quick turnaround time 24-48 hours.
  • On-site Service: For labs with a large number of pipets, a technician will travel to the medical school facility and perform the calibration and maintenance on-site - inside your lab if there is a suitable vacant space, minimizing downtime.

Pipet Maintenance and Repair

  • Preventative Maintenance: This includes dismantling the pipette for cleaning, inspecting and replacing seals and O-rings, and lubricating internal components.
  • Leak Testing: Technicians perform a leak test to ensure there are no air leaks that could affect the dispensed volume.
  • Repair Services: If a pipette is found to be out of tolerance or damaged, the technician can perform repairs.
FAQs

Frequently asked questions

01How often should I calibrate my pipets?

We recommend servicing your pipet at least once a year. If your lab handles high volumes or critical applications, you may want to service them more frequently. Regular maintenance prevents malfunctions and extends the lifespan of your pipettes.

02What models & brands of pipets do you calibrate?

We can do single, multi channel, p-aid, repeater, and more. Also our technicians are trained to handle service to all major pipet brands. We have extensive experience with Eppendorf, VWR, Gilson, Rainin, Thermo Fisher, and many other leading brands.

03What is the turnaround time for Calibration?

Our typical turnaround time for mail-in service is 24-48 hours (not including shipping time). For on-site service, it's either same-day or next-day, depending on our technicians' availability and the quantity of pipets.

04Why should I calibrate my pipets regularly?

The manufacturer recommends performing routine maintenance and calibration verification on pipets at least once every 6-12 months. This timeframe can be adjusted depending on how often they are used and the substances they handle.

05What does Preventative Maintenance include?

Preventative maintenance is a comprehensive service that includes disassembling the pipet to clean and lubricate the plunger and piston. This process also involves replacing all normal 'wear' parts, such as O-rings, seals, nozzles, and filters, to ensure the pipet performs reliably and accurately.

06How do I place an order or obtain a quote for Calibration and/or Repair Service?

Pipet calibration and repair orders can be placed through our email, phone call, and website. Quotes can also be generated through our website.

07What is the difference between As Found (As-before) and As Left (As-After) data?

“As-Found”: (Verification) The pipet's performance is tested before any parts are replaced or adjustments are made. This initial test verifies its current performance.

“As-Left”: (Calibration) The pipet's performance is tested again after all preventative maintenance, repairs, and calibration adjustments are completed.
